This Is How Winter Should Look

Although there have been posts on my blog I have been absent for a week of winter bliss.

Take one family, add in another well-loved family and have a week of awesomeness.

I read 3 books, finished a project (you’ll see that on Monday) and started a new one.

In between that we have massive snow fall – whirling, swirling, enormous flakes of stunning silent snow.

The kind you wake up to and the outside is covered. If you are Flip you spend the next 2 hours playing in it even though it is only 7 in the morning!

A trip to Aoraki (Mt Cook) which is NZ’s tallest mountain and oh gosh a rival to any of the amazing sights we saw in Europe.

Tobogganing – Bounce’s favourite part of the whole trip ‘going on the boggan by myself’ (that’s boggan, not bogan!)

Flip and The Atlas had an awesome day in the snow – ski lessons and using the poma for the first time (Flip) and some great snowboard runs (The Atlas)

Ice skating

Hot pools in the snow – I have to say it is a little disconcerting that the life guards/pool attendants are completely in ski gear and we are making our way about in togs – it just seems so wrong.

Ma n Pop joined us some days too.

It was such a special time.

It is so good to have a winter holiday where it is supposed to be cold and you expect that – it’s so easy to wish winter away when it gets to its coldest.

We did this last year too and we couldn’t believe how the skill and confidence had grown in just a year.

It is so amazing to be able to enjoy such a beautiful country.

Such awesome boys.

And to have the means to do something so amazing.

We are privileged beyond words.

I’m glad to be home though, with a mountain of washing and unpacking looking at me.

(maybe that’s only fair when we’ve had such a special time away)

  2. Wowzers, what an awesome winter holiday, all that snow must have just blown the kids away and kept them entertained for hours – talk about great timing for the holiday! Love the new background too. P.s. been a bit slow getting your parcel in the post, work has been crazy but hope to this week 🙂

  3. Where were the hot pools? They look like bliss!

  4. So glad you had a great time. I’ve been thinking about you and hoping that you were getting the clear blue skies that we have been having recently. I can’t wait to head out that way again sometime. I have such amazing memories of that area…

  5. P.S. just noticed Atlas is carrying one of your wheelie bin lid toboggans in one of the photos… how did they work out? Any good?

  6. What a happy post! We’ve missed you. Atlas’ bare arms are slightly distressing but all folks aren’t nannas like me I guess. Looking forward to having you and your masculine crew back!

  7. Oh how cute! Looks like you had a great time.

  8. Adorable boys and handsome husband! We were so glad to enjoy little bits of this holiday with you all. xx

  9. What an AMAZING family holiday!!! Your pictures are gorgeous and those memories will last a life time for your boys. I remember going on family ski trips as a kid – some of my most vivid memories!

    Love it.

Welcome back! Enjoy the sunshine today, hopefully it gets some of those ski jackets dry 😉
